Combining permeable paving with an underground rainwater storage tank is a novel idea that was first done at this site at Linlithgow Street, Toorak in March 2007. Southern Geosynthetics supplied triple modules, geotextile and geomembrane liner to form a 52,000L tank. The modules have a high crush strength and are H-20 rated for use in areas subject to vehicle traffic.
Structured pavement layers of cement-treated crushed rock, open-graded 20mm screenings and quarter-minus bedding were followed by the Eco-Paver. Rainwater is captured from both the roof and the pavement. Pavement water simply flows through the paver and is channelled in the modular tank through permeable screenings and filter geotextile layers. What a great idea!
