Ideal for DIY
Turn an unwanted pool into a valuable asset. Changing family needs and more stringent safety regulations mean more pools are being recycled into underground water tanks. It is cost effective and simple enough for DIY.
In 2008, at this featured project in Caulfield, owner Gary Elliot used a mixture of single, double and triple modules to best fit the curved pool profile to form a 47,000 litre tank. Rainwater is captured off the house roof and also infiltrated through the garden and, with the addition of a small above-ground pump, the water is used for both garden irrigation and toilet flushing. After 12 years the system is working just great.
At around $200 per cubic metre for module supply, the tank cost under $10,000 – smarter and cheaper than the alternative of punching in the base and in-filling with soil.
